“Plantation Shutters” are a type of shutter that was designed and found in the Southern US during the 1800’s in the cotton growing areas. It refers to a frame which holds blades that could be tilted open or closed to control light and help guard against the weather. Originally used on houses externally, Plantation Shutters are now used internally as a superior window dressing to enhance any decor, whilst still maintaining their original use to help control light and help guard against heat and noise.
The type of awning and the location will determine whether a particular awning is suitable for the situation. Generally most fabric awnings should be retracted or put up when the breeze is expected to reach 25-30klms an hour. Awnings are designed to give privacy and to reduce the impact of the sun along with sheltering you from a small amount of breeze.

Pelmets are used to cover the track on a vertical, panel glide or roman blind and the top tube on a roller blind to give a neater look. On a Roller blind it is more commonly used when the blind is ordinary rolled.
Reveal fitting or recess fitting a blind means placing it inside the window or door surround.
Face fitting a blind means attaching the blind to the “face” either on or above the architrave surrounding the window or door.
The control side is the side that you want to put the wand/chain on to operate the blind when you are standing inside the room looking out through the window or door. For example if you have a sliding door that opens from the right you may wish to place the control side on the right side of the door close to the door handle.
